How To Sit Properly At a Desk
Many people spend the majority of their working day sitting at a desk in front of a computer. So it makes sense to pay extra attention to how we sit at our desk. Here are a few tips to help prevent pain and discomfort associated with sitting poorly.
Keep both feet on the floor or on a footrest if they don't reach the ground
Legs should be uncrossed so that pelvis can remain balanced
Maintain a small space between the backs of knees and the edge of chair
Knees should be at or below the level of hips
Adjust the back of your seat to support your low back and mid back or use a backrest.
Relax shoulders and keep forearms parallel to the ground
Set your computer alarm so that you get up and move at least once an hour.
Position your keyboard correctly so that your shoulders are relaxed, your elbows are slightly away from your body and the wrists are supported.
Position the monitor 6-8 centimetres above your seated eye level directly in front of the keyboard
You may feel a little awkward at first using perfect sitting posture however as your body adapts it should start to feel more comfortable. If your neck or low back aches or hurts it means you are not using correct posture. You may need to readjust your desk or chair position as well as your own position.
